Via Sacra (The Passion of Christ)

This is the soundtrack composed by Marcelo Cervone to accompany the Via Sacra scenography created by Claudia Perdigão which is available and on display during Easter 2024 iat two shopping centres in Portugal, one exhibition at Amoreiras Shopping in Lisbon and another at Braga Parque Shopping centre.

More about the musical themes in the piece:

The main theme (heard at the beginning and end) represents the love that Christ imbued in everything, even through his suffering, he had love for humanity. The words I kept in mind when composing this were “majestic” and “triumphant.” But I also wanted it to have a touch of melancholy, because of how tragic the story is, without making it too sad, to depress everyone's shopping experience (laughs). When I hear that opening melody back, I think: dawn, a seed sprouting from the earth and unconditional love.

The second theme is darker and represents those who did not believe in Jesus. It represents a lack of faith. For those who are also not religiously inclined, like me, it represents a lack of faith in every sense (even a lack of faith in oneself, in one's neighbors, in one's country, in one's society...). melancholy that represents the moment in the olive grove where Jesus experiences deep anguish.

The third theme is the most delicate and peaceful of the track. This represents the love of Mary Magdalene (I believe she and Jesus were in love), the love of Jesus' mother Mary, and represents the care given to Jesus by those of his disciples who were steadfast even in the face of adversity.

The fourth theme represents a certain military presence, interpreted by me as the pomp of the Romans and their fear of Jesus.

The fourth theme takes us back to the first, where it seems that we have finally reached the top of a mountain, so to speak... The same melancholic and triumphant feeling returns, this time faster, representing Jesus' dream. resurrection, desincarnation and ascension to heaven.

Musically, Marcelo was inspired by various eras and composers, including Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky and Hans Zimmer.
